who?

who were we
before the avalanche
crushed
our bones into starlight
and tears into sea?
Who bore all our fears
and buried our dreams
in the fields of our mothers
to set us all free?
Who called to the night wishers,
dreamers, magicians
who danced on the rings
of the planets above?
Who kissed the lips
of the sun lamps and fireflies
who shed their own skins
just to wrap us
in love?

harlem, monday, 9 a.m.

Here I lay
awake and
disheveled
so overexposed
and underfed
and there you are
so starlit-weary
dewy lashes and a feather
lies under
your head
The gurgle of morning
a car sputter-splashes
and wet sunshine garbage
calls 'good morning' to us
as a child wearing
high socks
counts the cracks in the sidewalk
and kisses his mum
before boarding
the bus

waiting

I sit in my snowy corner
writing wishful thoughts
on a coffee-covered napkin,
warmed by the golden glow
of the streetlights and passing cars
outside my window
and shivering with the possibility
that you may never show.
Minutes morph into hours
as i turn my bleary eyes to the clock
it's strange to me
how in a world in constant motion,
I am still
yours.

indecision

Your unanswered praise
Hangs about me
Like fog dripping from tree branches
In the gray uncertainty
Of night.

Your questioning gaze
Full of impossibilities
Catapults me into oblivion
And I am orbiting silently
Above your grandeur.

Your quiet objections
Are sewn like seeds into the heartland
Of my mind
And as the dawn awakens the earth
They root and manifest themselves
Bearing fruit.

unfold

I want to unfold you
peel away your layers
tear apart the barriers
between your heart
and your smile.
Bury myself within your sweet mystery
and hope to discover
what consumed
the man I once
loved.
I am a carcass
a shell
the kiss that lingered
so long,
it bit
the taste
of a mouth
leaving too soon
